1936 Mercedes Benz 500K Roadster

The Benz  500k roadster has been my favorite since I started my collection as an adult. The first model was a black Bburago at 1/20 scale, a disappoint as it did not fit my 1/18 scale collection at the time. When I started to get serious with my 1/43 model, I knew there was a matchbox but could not get one until a decade later when a friend sold this to me.  I promptly got to  doing  little modifications here and there.

Modified Matchbox Models of Yesteryear: 1911 Daimler Type A12

Here's a vintage Matchbox diecast I bought sometime in 1971.  Windshield modified, painted the wheel hubs and steering wheel,, added a wiper, rear lights and spare wheel holder .  Posted a photo how it looked like in its original condition.
The 1911 Daimler is made at 1/45 scale so it is supposed to be smaller than standard  1/43 scale models. However, on comparative inspection, it does appear to be compatible with 1/43 scale models.  I soon found out that the Lesney company, along with Corgi, did not conform to international diecast scaling.  They made molds that conformed to the size of their boxes and their 1/43 scales as indicated in their original boxes were actually smaller than standard 1/43 scales that effectively made their 1/45 and even 1/46 scales better conforming to 1/43.scale
